Sinn Fein set to make gains
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP has said that the party is set to make gains right across the country following today's merger between Democratic Left and the Labour Party.
Mr. Adams said:
``There is clearly broad support among the electorate for a new force in Irish politics but we should not be confused into thinking that the final demise of Democratic Left represents such a change.
``Today's merger between Democratic Left and the Labour Party will not result in the building of a strong party of the left in the 26 counties but will see a continuation of policies which failed to bring about shared prosperity even in the midst of an economic boom.
``People expect more than re-packaged policies from past failures, they want a genuine radical alternative.
``As a republican labour party organised throughout the island Sinn Fein provide such an alternative and we are set to make gains right across the country following todays merger.''
