Trimble must act on speech

Statement from Sinn Fein Chairperson and Foyle assembly member, Mitchel McLaughlin, calling on David Trimble to ``take action in Ireland in keeping with his positive comments made in Washington last night.''

Mr. McLaughlin said:

``Last night Mr. Trimble speaking to the Washington Press Club, played down the crisis in the peace process and talked up the importance of the Good Friday agreement. I welcome the positive aspects of his comments and I hope they were not made for his US audience but represent a shift in Mr. Trimble's position. The people who voted for the agreement expect Mr. Trimble on his return to Ireland to speedily conclude the business he failed to conclude last week.''
