RUC Police Federation Chair out of touch
Statement from Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin, commenting on the speech by Les Rodgers, Chairman of the RUC's Police Federation.
Mr. McLaughlin said:
``Mr. Rodger's remarks reflect those of a man and a force which is totally out of touch with reality. His assessment of why the RUC are unacceptable to nationalsits and why their future is in question beggars belief. His remarks about the ceasefire confirm what Sinn Fein have been saying for the last few years - that there are those in the military establishment who wrecked the last peace process and who are determined to wreck the current peace process. Mr. Rodger's remarks suggest he is one of these people.
``To dismiss as he does, in the words of a fundamentalist preacher, those who are calling for the RUC to be replaced with an acceptable, unarmed and accountable police service, shows that there are those in the leadership of the RUC who are actively resisting change.''
