Extension of review must be used to resolve substantive issues
Speaking after the latest round of talks at Castle Buildings today, Sinn Fein Vice President Pat Doherty said:
``In London and Belfast over the last two weeks Sinn Fein has had a series of lengthy and detailed discussions with Senator Mitchell, the Ulster Unionists, the SDLP and other pro-Agreement parties.
``Up until this point we have not succeeded in achieving the objectives of this review - the establishment of the political institutions agreed on Good Friday and the implementation of the Agreement.
``This review was to be short, sharp and focused. It has already overrun its intended duration. However, we hope that this limited extension can be used to resolve the substantive issues of the establishment of the political institutions.
``Sinn Fein remains committed to the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. I believe that we have consistently demonstrated our determination to advance the Peace Process and we will not be deflected from our goal of a democratic peace settlement.''
