Implementation of the Agreement needs to be put beyond doubt
Statement from north Belfast Assembly member, Gerry Kelly, claiming failure to establish the Executive and all Ireland Council by 31st October ``will raise doubts in the minds of nationalists and republicans about the value of the Good Friday Agreement.
Mr. Kelly said:
``The stance by David Trimble has nothing to do with decommissoining or weapons. It is about unionists attempting to overturn the democratic rights of others to positions on the Executive. To date the unionists have been allowed to impose a veto over the implementation of the Agreement. The only institution in place is the assembly. People are rightly asking, where are the other institutions and when are they going to be set up. This needs to be put beyond doubt.
``If the Executive and the all Ireland Council are not in place by 31st October then nationalists and republicans will begin to question the value of the Good Friday Agreement.''
