Adams welcomes MacBride Principles
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP this afternoon described the enactment of the Mac Bride fair employment principles by the US Congress and Senate as a welcome boost for those seeking the implementation of the Equality agenda of the Good Friday Agreement. He said that it was ``a great achievement for all those activists and Congress and Senate members who have taken up the equality agenda.''
Mr. Adams said:
``It is fitting that on this the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil Rights Campaign that we see the Mac Bride Principles being passed into law by the US Congress and Senate. This legislation provides a clear and unmistakable message from the US that economic discrimination and inequality is not acceptable.
``The watchword for Sinn Fein throughout this peace process has been equality. We believe that it is the foundation for a political settlement. What is now required to achieve real and measurable change towards equality is the political will to do what is right and implement the Good Friday Agreement.
``I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all those activists and individual Congress and Senate members who supported the Mac Bride principles campaign and who have taken up the Equality Agenda and ask you to keep up your efforts.''ENDS
