Ballymoney march a calculated insult

Statement from Sinn Fein Assembly Member for Upper Bann Dr. Dara O'Hagan on last nights `insulting' Orange March in Ballymoney.

Dr. O'Hagan said:

``Last nights parade by the Orange Order puts firmly in context the recent series of meetings and seminars held by the institution to supposedly find a solution to the impasse at Drumcree. It supports the widely held view that the Orange Order is neither serious about resolving the siege of the Garvaghy Road nor indeed understanding the genuine concerns of the Nationalist community throughout the six counties.

``The Orange Order has once again displayed to the world the nature of their institution and further underpined nationalist opposition to such a grouping parading through their areas. Indeed last nights march equally offended all sections of right thinking opinion.

``In the wake of last nights calculated attempt by the Orange Order to trivialise the murder of the Quinn children and exasperate the grief of their family, a great sense of anger has emerged within the nationalist community. The grossly insensitive attitude of the Orange Order and their ambivalence to the Quinn family beggars belief.''
