Arrests in London
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams commenting on last nights
events in London said:
``I regret the fact that someone has been killed and I extend
my sympathy to their family.
``Clearly this incident underlines the seriousness of the
current situation. We have lived with a political vacuum
for some time now and that is entirely dangerous.
``Last nights events, like those of the summer months,
underline the need to fill this vacuum with a real process
of inclusive negotiations.
``I would appeal to Mr Major, even at this late stage, to
take up the challenge of building a real peace process. The
onus is on the British government to build confidence in a
new reconstructed process.
``All of this presents great challenges for everyone. But we
have to keep our eyes firmly fixed on the prize of peace.
That is what is important and that has to be the focus of
the people who genuinely want to build a peace process.''
