Adams welcomes Unionist decision

Speaking after a meeting in Dublin of his party's Ard Chomhairle, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams said:

``The decision of the Unionist Executive to recommend that Mr Trimble represents his party and its voters in the talks is very welcome. I urge him to use his leadership role and sit down in the face to face format that is already the model for these talks.

``Direct and open dialogue is obviously the best, indeed the only way, in which real negotiations can take place. The unionist decision should be condolidated by both governments ensuring that substantive talks on the core issues begin on Monday.''
