Fine Gael Duplicity Continues

Commenting on the statement of Fine Gael T.D Charles Flanagan in which he described Gerry Adams comments that he ``expects a united Ireland in our lifetime'' as ``fundamentalist cant'', Sinn Fein Dublin South West representative Sean Crowe said:

`` This outburst is only a more extreme version of the pro-unionist , and sycophantic line that we have come to expect from the Fine Gael party in relation to the conflict in Ireland.''

``While Mr Flanagan can be so critical of Gerry Adams simple articulation of the wish of the vast majority of the Irish people, he had nothing to say in May when the British Prime Minister Tony Blair, declared his support of the Union, and went further to say that,'' a United Ireland would not become a reality in the lifetime of the youngest person in the room.''

.'' Mr Flanagan and his party colleagues would do well to remember the fact that a United Ireland is the wish of the vast majority of the Irish people as is clearly expressed in the constitution of this state, which I presume Mr Flanagan and his party colleagues subscribe to''.
