Trimble must re-invigorate agreement

Statement from Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin responding to David Trimble's call to `re-invigorate the Good Friday Agreement.'.

Mr. McLaughlin said:

``Clearly the person best able to re-invigorate the Good Friday Agreement is David Trimble himself. It is the UUP which has consistently blocked the establishment of the institutions agreed under the Good Friday Agreement. This is where the crisis in the peace process lies.

``David Trimble should stop blaming everyone else and accept responsibility for the impasse which has been created. He should stop attempting to rewrite the Good Friday Agreement on unionist terms and accept that the Agreement is a compromise between opponents and implement it fully on that basis.

``Mr. Trimble and the UUP can no longer ignore their obligations under the Good Friday Agreement. They must stop posturing and begin to work constructively with nationalists and republicans under the terms of the Agreement.''
