Lurgan Confrontations Provoked by RUC
Sinn Fein Assembly for Upper Bann Dr. Dara O'Hagan has said that the ``actions of the RUC in Lurgan early this morning provoked serious confrontation resulting in several people seriously injured.''
Dr. O'Hagan said:
``At approximately 5:30 this morning the RUC sealed off nationalist William St area of the town. Shortly afterwards, RUC men attacked two nationalist women protesters provoking serious confrontation. Up to 8 plastic bullets were fired two injuring protesters.''
``Like Belfast, todays parade should have never happened. The protest in opposition to the march was peaceful and dignified. Despite this fact, the RUC chose to provoke confrontation and were clearly out to cause disruption and injury.''
``I am appealing for calm, following this mornings RUC disturbances.''ENDS
