Equality Must Be A Reality

Statement from Equality spokesperson, John Kelly, Assembly member for Mid-Ulster responding to the announcement today of the membership of the Equality Commission.

Mr Kelly said:

``I welcome today's long overdue announcement. I wish the commission members well in their task. It is a huge undertaking given the extent and pervasive nature of discrimination and equality in society in the six counties. Given the delay in setting up the commission I would like to see them fulfil their remit as quickly as possible.

Mr. Kelly concluded:

Nationalists and republicans will judge the commission on how well it does its work and brings in the changes necessary to end sectarian discrimination and inequality. The Commission will be judged on results not words.''ENDS.
