Adams to meet Irish American delegation
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP will, tomorrow, lead a Sinn Fein delegation in a meeting with prominent Irish Americans.
The Irish American group has played a prominent role in the peace process over the past four years. The meeting will take place at 3pm in Connolly House, Andersonstown Road, Belfast.
The Irish American delegation will include Niall O'Dowd, publisher of the Irish Voice newspaper, prominent businessman Chuck Feeney and Bill Flynn, CEO of Mutual America. Mr. Flynn will be accompanied by Tom Moran of Mutual of America.
Scheduling problems arising from unavoidable short notice have prevented the attendance of former Congressman Bruce Morrison and Joe Jamison of the Irish American Labour Coalition. Both have sent messages pledging their ongoing commitment to the objectives and work of the group.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Mr. Adams said:
``This group, has since 1993, taken the lead in demonstrating the positive and constructive role which the Irish diaspora can make to the attempt to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ireland. Importantly, their commitment to this has proved to be durable.
``I look forward to the meeting and discussing how we can jointly build on the new opportunity which has been created.'' ENDS
