RUC FIRED SHOTS

Sinn Fein Councillor Paddy McManus has criticised the RUC for firing live rounds in Brompton Park, Ardoyne tonight.

Cllr. McManus said:

``For the last few nights the RUC have been firing salvos of plastic bullets at people in Ardoyne. Tonight an RUC officer fired several live rounds. This was preceded by the RUC firing several plastic bullets at a number of local people who were trying to assist two brothers who were being attacked by a group of loyalists when they left an Ardoyne social club. One of the brothers is now in the Mater hospital.

``It took several hours before the RUC admitted firing the rounds. This incident underlines the cavalier attitude the RUC have displayed towards people in this area in recent days.''
