Collusion remains - Maskey
Sinn Fein Assembly member Alex Maskey today called on the British Security Minister Adam Ingram to explain how a security file on Sinn Fein Councillor Michael Ferguson went missing from an RUC barracks.
Mr. Maskey said:
``In the early hours of this morning Lisburn Sinn Fein Councillor Michael Ferguson was visited at his home by the RUC. They informed him that a `security file' compiled by the RUC and containing all of his personal details went missing from their possession.
``In access of one thousand similar `security files' on nationalists and republicans have gone missing from RUC barracks over the last number of years . Ths vast majority of these files have ended up in the hands of loyalist death squads. This was no accident.
``The deliberate passing on of information by the RUC and the British Army to loyalists is nothing new. People will be familiar with the Brian Nelson affair which was only the tip of the iceberg.
``All of this has led to the targetting, injuring and killing of many who had files passed on to loyalists by the RUC and British Army.
``We were told by the British government that collusion had stopped. It is quite obvious that there are those still intent on targetting Sinn Fein representatives.
``I now call on Adam Ingram to explain how Councillor Ferguson's file went missing and exactly what he intends to do about it.''
