Invitation to Donaldson appeasement of No Camp

Sinn Fein Chairperson, Mitchel McLaughlin has described David Trimble's reported invitation to Jeffrey Donaldson to join the Ulster Unionist negotiating teams as ``a worrying development and designed to appease the No camp.''

Mr. McLaughlin said:

``David Trimble seems intent on pandering to me No camp minority within the Ulster Unionist Party. Does this move signal that David Trimble has now moved to Jeffrey Donaldson's position ?

``Jeffrey Donaldson walked out of the negotiations leading into the Good Friday Agreement and has been instrumental in orchestrating active opposition to every aspect of the Agreement from the release of prisoners to the Equality agenda ever since.

``Rather than continually attempting to appease those who are opposed to change Mr. Trimble should be directing his energies towards positive Unionism and providing them with the type of leadership for which they voted in the referendum and the Assembly elections.''ENDS
