Trimble cannot have a veto
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP commenting on remarks today by UUP leader David Trimble on the decommissioning issue said:
``David Trimble cannot be given a veto over a talks process, how it functions or who participates in it.
``The onus for progress rests with the two governments. What is important is that a meaningful and inclusive process of negotiations is created, that all obstacles, and specifically that of decommissioning, are removed and that this process moves quickly to the substantive issues.
``At Drumcree last year David Trimble broke the Mitchell Principles. His stand is therefore hypocritical. His willingness to sideline decommissioning and engage in substantive negotiations with the loyalist parties in the absence of a genuine loyalist ceasefire smacks of double standards.''
