Last opportunity to be included on voters register
Sinn Fein candidate for Dublin South West, Seán Crowe today called on young people to make sure that they are on the electoral register as the supplementary voting list closes tomorrow.
Mr.Crowe said:
``For all those still not on the electoral register you have until tomorrow to have your name added to the Supplementary List. This can be done by calling to your local post office and filling out form RFA2. I would call on all those still not registered, particularly young people, to avail of this opportunity and ensure that you have an opportunity to vote on June 6th.
``A declining interest by young people in political participation represents a major challenge to all of the political parties on this island. Recent survey's have highlighted the fact that almost 18% of eligible young voters in the Twenty Six Counties are not registered and many of those registered have indicated that they did not intend using their vote.
``There are an estimated 300,000 first time voters in this election and it is important that young people avail of the opportunity to influence the future direction our society will take. By not voting you are accepting things as they are and are allowing your future to be decided by others.
``Every vote does make a difference and we are calling on young people to make your vote count by voting Sinn Fein on June 6th.''ENDS
