Gerry Adams welcomes Kelly transfer
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams welcoming the announcement that republican prisoner Pat Kelly has been transferred to Portlaoise prison, has called for the immediate repatriation of the remaining Republican prisoners currently imprisoned in England.
Mr. Adams said:
``I obviously welcome the news that Pat Kelly has been transferred to Portlaoise prison. This decision is of course long overdue. Had Mr. Kelly been moved much earlier or had he received appropriate medical treatment while imprisoned in England his condition may not have deteriorated to the point which it has. Hopefully he will now receive the treatment his condition requires.
``The British government should now, as a matter of urgency, transfer immediately the remaining 24 Republican prisoners held in England, six of whom have spent over twenty years behind bars.''
