Kosovo Asylum announcement - rank hypocrisy
Sinn Fein's European candidate for Dublin, Seán Crowe has claimed that only one out of every ten asylum seekers are given refugee status in Ireland . Against this background he described the announcement of a thousand places being allocated for Kosovar Albanians as being `` rank hypocrisy.''
Mr Crowe said:
``The recent announcement of a thousand places being allocated for Kosovar Albanians in Ireland stinks of rank hypocrisy. High profile headline chasing statements hide the reality behind this governments policies on refugees. One in every ten asylum seekers that come to this country, are denied refugees status.
``Government policy and double speak is fueling the rise of racism and racist attacks on refugees. Refugees from wartorn countries like the Kosovo deserve our help. But this Government have already created by their policies, the impression for ordinary people of this country that asylum seekers aren't welcome here.''
