Adams calls for inquiries into killings and collusion
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP has called for separate independent inquiries into the killing of Rosemary Nelson, the killing of Pat Finucane and the role of British Intelligence and Brian Nelson in collusion with Loyalist Death Squads.
Mr. Adams was speaking in London in advance of his meeting with British Prime Minster, Tony Blair and an Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
Mr Adams said:
``Last week's U.N. report, the criticism of the RUC in the US Congress and the debate in the European Parliament, allied with the available evidence, all demands the establishment of independent investigations and inquiries into these matters.
``I will take the opportunity in my discussions with the British Prime Minster to again press him on this issue, something I have done at all our meetings. Over a year ago I gave Mr Blair a file on the Brian Nelson affair.
``I will also urge him to ignore the cynical attempts by RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan to prevent a proper independent inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane through his recent appointment of John Stevens in this investigation. This move is not about getting to the truth. It is about blocking the truth.''
