Sinn Fein Welcomes NSPCC Campaign
Assembly Member for West Belfast and party spokesperson on Youth and Children's issues Sue Ramsey, welcomed the NSPCC's new Full Stop Campaign. The campaign is aimed at tackling the high levels of child abuse in the North of Ireland.
Assembly Member Ramsey said:
``Sinn Fein welcomes the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign as an important initiative. The abuse of children is a serious issue throughout Ireland affecting thousands of children daily. We all have a responsibility to make such abuse a thing of the past, as political representatives, as community workers and as citizens.
``I particular I welcome the youth focus behind demands for Young Peoples Advisory Groups, Child Friendly Communities and Counselling and advisory services for schools.
``Sinn Fein believes that for such measures to be addressed effectively the new Assembly requires a Junior Minister for Youth and Children. We believe that this is the best guarantee for the full implementation of the campaign and the prioritisation of young people and children's needs throughout all areas of relevant policy.''
