Doherty welcomes Ahern commitment
Sinn Fein Vice President Pat Doherty has welcomed the ``commitment by Fianna Fáil leader Bertie Ahern that a Fianna Fáil government will have the restoration of the peace process as its main priority.''
Mr. Doherty said:
``Sinn Fein is totally committed to rebuilding the opportunity for peace squandered by the British government.
``Although, a reversal of British policy could yet reconstruct the peace process, increasingly it looks as if John Major's dependency on the unionists will prevent progress before the Westminster election takes place.
``Sinn Fein will continue with our efforts and we welcome the commitment by Mr. Ahern to prioritise the building of a credible peace process which is inclusive and tackles quickly the substantive issues.''
