McLaughlin to raise Denton affair in US

Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin is travelling to the United States today. He plans to raise the demand for equality of treatment for nationalists in the six counties and to attack the British government's failure to tackle the structured discrimination which exists here; evidence of which has again been revealed through the Denton affair.

Mr. McLaughlin also has a very busy schedule involving a series of events to mark St. Patrick's Day.

Mr. Laughlin will be meeting senior political figures in Washington and will be attending major Irish/American events, including the American Ireland Fund dinner.

Mr. McLaughlin said:

``I intend raising the Denton Affair with senior political figures on Capitol Hill. This is a significant issue and is further evidence of the British government's unwillingness to effectively tackle the issue of discrimination.''

Mr. McLaughlin added:

``Sinn Fein's high profiled presence in the United States, which is maintained by our permanent diplomatic mission in Washington and our senior representative Mairead Keane, has achieved significant results over the last two years. Both Ms Keane and myself have a busy round of meetings and events to participate in over the next ten days.''

Mr. McLaughlin's schedule includes:
