SF Assembly members to urge Government and Opposition to push David Trimble to implement Good Friday Agreement
All 18 members of the Sinn Fein Assembly team in the Six Counties will visit Leinster House on the day after the Dáil's resumption 28 January. The delegation will include party President Gerry Adams and Mid-Ulster MP Martin McGuinness. The visit will be hosted by Sinn Fein TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin.
The theme of the visit by the Assembly members is the all-Ireland dimension of the Good Friday Agreement including the establishment of a joint parliamentary forum between the Oireachtas and the Assembly (Strand Two, paragraph 18) and the need for representation from the Six Counties in the Oireachtas.
Announcing the visit Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said:
``David Trimble's continuing refusal to implement the Good Friday Agreement has created an extremely serious situation. The UUP leader has the political strength to face down the no-men of unionism and establish the Executive with Sinn Fein participation. He lacks the will to do so and is still digging deeper into the hole he has dug for himself on decommissioning. He should stop digging, recognise the mandate he has been given and fully embrace the Agreement.
``This week we in Sinn Fein will be urging the Government and Opposition in the Oireachtas to push for the implementation of the Agreement endorsed by 95% of voters in the 26 Counties.''
