Pat Doherty, Vice-President of Sinn Fein
Pat Doherty from Carrigart, Co. Donegal has a proven track record both in terms of his experience in dealing with political leaders in Ireland and abroad and in his ability to speak out on behalf of the people of Donegal.
Pat recently met with senior politicians in both Washington D.C. and Brussels on behalf of Sinn Fein. While there he took the opportunity to meet with young Irish emigrants and to raise the issue of `peace and reconciliation' funding for Donegal and the border counties.
Born in Glasgow of Irish emigrant parents he moved back to Donegal in 1968 and is married with five children and involved in local community activities.
A founding member of his local Credit Union, Pat Doherty is also a member of the Sinn Fein Ard Chomhairle and has been Vice President of the party since 1988. In the last twelve months Pat has headed the Sinn Fein delegation to the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation where he has spoken out on issues as diverse as the peace process, economic regeneration for the North-West, fisheries and equality legislation. He is also centrally involved in our dialogue with the Dublin government and in the trilateral talks involving the British government.
Read Pat's recent by-election manifesto for the April 2 by-election in Donegal North-East. Pat tripled the Sinn Fein vote in the constituency.
