TD describes meeting with members of Diplomatic Corps as a ``good engagement on substantive issues''

Sinn Fein TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh and MLA Conor Murphy today held a political briefing with Dublin-based members of the International Diplomatic Corps in Leinster House. This briefing, the third in a series of briefings initiated by Aengus Ó Snodaigh since he was appointed Sinn Fein's Spokesperson for International Affairs, was exclusively focussed on the peace process.

After the meeting Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

``With more than 20 members of the Diplomatic Corps in attendance today's meeting was important to maintaining the international community's understanding and support for the Irish peace process. We had a good engagement on substantive issues. It was obvious from the meeting that there remains a high level of interest and knowledge about the peace process among the international community, and I to be welcomed.

``I would hope that the representatives of the different embassies and missions bring back to their home countries the message that Sinn Fein is committed to the full and faithful implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and that it is our determination to see it through to a final and successful conclusion. We would also hope that they have taken on board our concerns over the lack of clarity from the British Government as to whether the upcoming elections are going to take place or not. We have asked for their support in attempting to seek assurances from both Dublin and London that in the interests of democracy the elections will take place as planned on May 29th.''
