Sinn Fein welcomes the appointment of a Children's Commissioner

Sinn Fein Spokesperson on children's issues, former West Belfast MLA Sue Ramsey has welcomed the appointment of a Children's Commissioner. Ms. Ramsey said:

``Sinn Fein welcomes the appointment of Mr. Williams to the post of Children's Commissioner. It is important that the post has been filled.

``However, we still have concerns about the specific role and remit of the commissioner, particularly around the issue of juvenile justice where the NIO were resistant.

``It is vital that the new Children's Commissioner gets the resources and support required to develop the full potential of this challenging portfolio. Sinn Fein looks forward to working with the new Children's Commissioner.''ENDS
