200 further job losses for Tallaght
Tanaiste must respond immediately
Reacting to the news that the Gallaghers Cigarette Plant in Tallaght is to lay off 200 full-time workers, Dublin South West Dáil Deputy Seán Crowe has urged the office of the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment to ensure that the appropriate agencies respond with the immediacy that this tragic news demands .
"When you add these two hundred jobless people from Gallaghers to the 1,194 people from accross Dublin who lost their jobs in the last two months, it makes for a very depressing outlook. Tallaght now ranks as the fourth highest area of unemployment in Dublin - and even more worrying - Dublin has the second highest unemployment growth rate in the state. This trend must be reversed at all costs.
"Investment must be made into sustainable industry in the areas that need it most. Tallaght is one such area and I am calling on the Tainiste directly to target this area for investment and inward development."
