Anger as British Secretary of State refuses access to Assembly investigation into PSNI raid of Sinn Fein's Stormont Offices

Sinn Fein Assembly group leader, Newry Armagh MLA Conor Murphy has expressed anger at the refusal of the British Secretary of State Paul Murphy to allow former members of the Assembly Commission access to the Assembly investigation into the PSNI raid on Sinn Fein's Stormont Offices.

Mr Murphy said:

``The PSNI raid of Sinn Fein's offices in the Assembly was part of an elaborately choreographed performance for the media. It was a heavy-handed attack on the democratic institutions by the PSNI.

``There is no excuse for hiding this report and Paul Murphy should come clean and allow full access to this Assembly investigation.

``This raid begs a number of key questions. Who authorised this assault on the democratic institutions? Why did the PSNI arrive with the media in tow? But perhaps the most important question for Paul Murphy is why is he seeking to suppress this Assembly investigation? Who is he protecting?''
