Sinn Fein stage protest while debate rages on Environment Bill
At 7:00 this evening, Sinn Fein will be staging a protest outside the gates of Leinster House. The protest will coincide with the debate on the Environment Bill.
Chairperson for Dublin Sinn Fein, Daithí Doolan, said that if passed the Bill will overturn the Supreme Court decision that Councils must collect household waste from those who have not paid the Bin Charges.
Mr Doolan said:
``If passed this Bill will overturn a Supreme Court decision stating that Councils must continue to collect household waste from those who have not paid the bin charges.
``It will also transfer more powers away >from elected councillors to unelected city and county managers. Sinn Fein have put down a number of amendments to the Bill, and these need to be implemented.
``We will be protesting tonight against this Bill, and we are asking all those opposed to the bin taxes to join us.''ENDS
