Ó Snodaigh to raise Cyprus at European Affairs Committee
Sinn Fein's spokesperson on International Affairs, Aengus Ó Snodaigh will today raise the issue of Turkey's continued occupation of northern Cyprus at the Dáil's European Affairs Committee in Leinster House today. He will table a motion reiterating Irish opposition to the partition and occupation of Cyprus. The move follows the recent visit of three Irish parliamentarians to Cyprus at the invitation of the Turkish authorities to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the invasion.
The motion will be debated in public session today (Wednesday 31 July). The meeting begins at 2pm and takes place in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
Motion on Cyprus to European Affairs Committee:-
``That this Committee reiterates Irish opposition to the illegal occupation and partition of Cyprus by Turkey which began 28 years ago. We express our view that Turkey should not be admitted to membership of the European Union while the question of the unity and self-determination of Cyprus remains unresolved.''
