Sinn Fein MP calls for release of republican prisoners in Castlerea

Sinn Fein Vice President and MP for West Tyrone Pat Doherty is today visiting Republican prisoners in Castlerea to discuss their continued detention in contravention of the Good Friday Agreement. Speaking prior to the visit Mr. Doherty said:

``The Good Friday Agreement, which was ratified by the electorate throughout the island, dealt with a number of key issues, including the release of political prisoners.

``While I am conscious of the pain and upset that this case causes for the McCabe family we can not allow it to blind us to the fact that these prisoners rights under the Good Friday Agreement are being denied.

``There is an obligation on the government to implement the terms of the Agreement and release the Castlerea Five immediately.'' ENDS
