Policing submission handed to British government
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP speaking this afternoon at Stormont after the party made a submission to the British government on the policing issue said:
``Sinn Fein today made a submission to the British government on the issue of Policing. In the course of this week we will be publishing our submission.
``If there is a will it is possible that the Review of Policing legislation could herald the new beginning to Policing as set out in the Good Friday Agreement.
``It is my position that this could be better achieved by the restoration of the consensus around Policing that once underpinned the Sinn Fein/SDLP/Irish government approach.
``I welcome John Reid's assertion today that he is going to proceed with legislative amendments despite the UUPs threat to come off the Policing Board.
``Dr. Reid, however, knows that the Weston Park proposals fall short of what is required. In a sentence that is for a politicised and accountable civic policing service.''
