Ferris Demands Immediate Investigation into Corrib Gas
The Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Natural Resources Martin Ferris TD has demanded a full and immediate investigation into all the circumstances surrounding the granting of planning permission to the Corrib Gas consortium. He has also called for the project to be halted pending the outcome of that enquiry. Deputy Ferris said:
"The allegations made on Channel Four News confirm all the worst suspicions of those who have opposed this project, and outlined the disgraceful terms which this state grants to the multi nationals.
"This entire project stinks to high heaven. And worst of all is that confirmation of interference in the planning process, of disregard for the environment, contempt for local communities, and corporate donations comes as no surprise. And yet one of those donors, the Shell subsidiary Enterprise, had the arrogance to demand that I withdraw a statement I made in October drawing attention to the fact that it has benefited massively from the scandalous manner in which our natural resources are handed over by this state."
Deputy Ferris will raise the issue in the Dáil on Wednesday morning to demand an immediate debate on the role of former Minister Frank Fahey and all the circumstances surrounding the project including donations from those involved to Fianna Fáil.
