Burke calls for integrated social housing in Spenser Dock Development

Sinn Fein represemtative for Dublin Central, Councillor Christy Burke has called on the Dublin Docklands Development Authority to publicly state how they intend to fulfill their requirement to provide 20% social housing as part of the Spenser Dock development. Cllr. Burke has called for integrated social and affordable housing for the area and said that he will be raising the matter at Dublin City Council and with the Dublin Docklands Development Authority. Cllr. Burke said:

``Following the publication of the plan for the development of Spenser Dock last week there have been concerns raised about the failure of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority to state how they intend to fulfill the 20% social housing provision for the area.

``The massive housing crisis that exists not just in this City but throughout the state is because developers and speculators have been given a free rein and allowed to dictate where people can and can't live. The Planning Act of 2000 contained a strong commitment to social and affordable housing and was a means of redressing that imbalance.

``It is vital that the 20% target for social and affordable housing is met and in an integrated manner. Sinn Fein has called for the establishment of a Housing Commissioner's Office in order to monitor and enforce the implementation of this legislation.''
