Sinn Fein offers support to Ardagh Glass workers
Speaking today after the Union ballot in the Irish Glass Bottle factory in Ringsend, Sinn Fein Dublin South East Representative Daithí Doolan offered his support to the workers in their decision to start industrial action.
``I am 100% behind the workers and their unions. They have been left with no option by the management of Ardagh Glass. They have been forced into this action by the constant provocation of the board of management
The Ardagh Management have shown blatant disregard for workers rights and the plight of their families in offering only statuory redundancy. This flies in the face of the Labour Relations Court recommendation that each worker receive five weeks pay for every year worked.
The trade unions and their members have remained loyal to the company and the various agreements and are being shafted, not only by Ardagh but also by the inaction of the government. I find it unbelievable that the government can stand by and let the states only glass recycling facility close.''
