Sinn Fein TD to join flotilla against nuclear shipments
Sinn Fein spokesperson on the Environment Arthur Morgan TD will tomorrow join the flotilla of small vessels that set sail with Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior from Dublin today to protest at the arrival of two nuclear fuel-carrying ships on to the Irish Sea over the next couple of days. Speaking in advance Deputy Morgan said that the organisation of the flotilla was a ``positive protest action against BNFL's transportation of a highly dangerous cargo around the globe''.
He said he hoped the protest at sea ``would add a new dimension to the ongoing efforts to have not only these shipments stopped but to ultimately having Sellafield shut down''.
The County Louth deputy went on to say that, ``it is great to see the cross-party support there has been for this flotilla. But it must not stop there. We must pursue every avenue available to us to have this time bomb on our doorstep closed forever. The reports this week that BNFL's plant Sellafield has again started dumping toxic waste into the Irish Sea will give this protest added impetus and I wish everyone taking part the best of luck and success.''
