`Sinn Fein gains will help deprive FF of overall majority' - Ó Caoláin
Commenting on the latest poll results Sinn Fein Cavan/Monaghan candidate Caoimhghín Ó Caolain said that their real significance was the lack of difference between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. He said:
``The real significance of the polls is the consistently poor showing of Fine Gael. This is due to the lack of any significant difference between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael on social and economic issues.
``Despite the speculation about Fianna Fáil being within reach of an overall majority I believe they will not achieve it. The seat I won in Cavan/Monaghan was formerly occupied by Fianna Fáil. In key constituencies Sinn Fein is poised to take seats occupied by or targeted by Fianna Fáil. Therefore the success of Sinn Fein will help deprive Fianna Fáil of an overall majority. People are turning to Sinn Fein in increasing numbers and with a week to go in the election campaign I am confident of that success.''
