Ferris Slams Rural Development Cuts
Speaking in the Dáil today, the Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Rural Development Martin Ferris TD claimed that the cut in funds for Rural Affairs will make it impossible for the Government to fulfil the commitments it has made in the area of rural development.
Deputy Ferris questioned Minister O Cuiv on the effects of the cuts signalled in the Estimates, and on the failure to ensure adequate representation of women on the boards of various rural development programmes.
Deputy Ferris claimed that apart from the spending cuts that the withdrawal of post offices, schools and buses will condemn an increasing number of rural communities to isolation and poverty. ENDS
