Government must respond quickly to help residents whose homes were badly damaged in todays flooding

Sinn Fein candidate for Dublin South East, Daithí Doolan, was today in Stella Gardens offering support to residents whose homes have been very badly damaged by waist high flooding.

Mr. Doolan said:

``The emergency plan is that people will be accomodated in the local G.A.A. hall until they can move back home. What I want to see is the government getting involved immediately and ensuring that all people effected are adaquately compensated with a minimum of delay, and they are not left living in the G.A.A. hall indefinitely. The government must ensure that the insurance companies are not allowed to abdicate their responsibilities to the people.

``The danger of leaving areas unprotected when they are obviously vulnerable to floods of this nature is common sense and those responsible have chosen to ignore it. I hope they can make the connection between their inaction and people needing to be evacuated from their homes in boats.''
