MPs offer support to Aer Lingus workers

Sinn Fein MPs Pat Doherty and Michelle Gildernew flying out to the US from Dublin airport this morning offered their full support to the workers of Aer Lingus during the current crisis.  They said:

``Sinn Fein want to express our full support to the workers of Aer Lingus during this time of uncertainty for the company. We are well aware of the frustration and anxiety that many of them feel especially since their long term future is not yet certain.

``We share the view that the Dublin government and the Aer Lingus management's approach to this issue has been disastrous.  In particular their failure to stand up to the European Commission was nothing short of a disgrace.

``The sale of part of the company is a cause of great concern.  Aer Lingus belongs to the people of this state.  This government has no right to treat the workers and consumers of the company with the blatant disregard, something which has marked their attitude to this entire situation.

``Sinn Fein believes that the government should immediately intervene to support Aer Lingus and that the airline should remain in public ownership.''
