Time To Kick-Start Knock Airport Development - Sinn Fein

Vincent Wood, Sinn Fein's candidate in Mayo is calling on the government to `kick-start' development of Knock Airport and give the region a major boost.

``The government's stand-offish and piecemeal approach to the development of Knock Airport means that it will never reach its full potential.

``Knock is in a central location in Connaught and government could and should recognise this selling point and actively encourage inward investment and the expansion of services - both freight and passenger. Furthermore, government should make a clear commitment to support the Airport as a key infrastructural asset and become a direct shareholder, as it did with Shannon.

``The people who work at the airport and many people throughout east Mayo are urging the government to take Knock seriously. It is time for bold and imaginative action and whole-hearted support from the state,'' he said.
