Abolition of Stamp Duty - sets the example

Sinn Fein Chairperson of the Assembly Finance and Personnel Committee, Dungannon Mayor Francie Molloy MLA has welcomed the abolition of Stamp Duty on property purchases under £150,000 in deprived areas.

Mr Molloy said:

``The abolition of Stamp Duty is to be welcomed. It will hopefully create business and development opportunities within deprived areas.

``The redevelopment of derelict housing and waste ground can make an important contribution to renewal in urban, town and rural communities but it has to be supported by targeted action to improve inward investment, business start up opportunities, transport infrastructure and access to health, education and leisure facilities.

``This recognition of deprivation within certain areas also gives a clear direction for government agencies to follow the example to target investment in services, facilities and infrastructure in these areas.''
