Sinn Fein dismisses Trimble's remarks on BBC's Breakfast with Frost
Sinn Fein Ard Chomhairle member and Mayor of Sligo, Alderman Seán MacManus, is the main speaker at this afternoon's Bloody Sunday rally in Derry City to commemorate the 14 Civil Rights marchers shot dead by the British Army's Parachute Regiment on January 30th 1972.
Responding to remarks made by the Ulster Unionist Party leader, David Trimble, on the BBC TV programme, Breakfast with Frost, Alderman MacManus said:
``Sinn Fein is always reluctant to respond to what are clearly attempts by the unionists to put a particular spin on negotiations, but I have to say that David Trimble's comments on the issue of arms bear no relationship to the discussion in which Sinn Fein is involved.
``We have always made it clear that these discussions are about policing, demilitarisation, the question of weapons and other matters including the abuse of power by Mr Trimble.
``The current phase of discussions have focussed on the policing issue. On this, and on the other matters, there is still a lot of work to do.'' ENDS
