UUP move welcomed

Reacting to the decision of the UUP Executive to mandate David Trimble to stand for the post of First Minister, Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin said it was `a welcome move'.

Mr. McLaughlin said:

``Today's decision by the UUP Executive is clearly a welcome move, especially when taken with their statement earlier this week committing themselves to work the political institutions.

``Those of us in political leadership will be judged in what we make of the moves which have happened this week. Many challenges lie ahead but we must begin to work collectively to ensure the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.''
