McGuinness meets with Ambassador Hass and Colin Powell

Sinn Fein's Chief Negotiator Martin McGuinness, who is on a three day visit to the US, today met with Senators Kennedy and Dodd and the Head of the Friends of Ireland Committee Congressman Jim Walsh. Mr. McGuinness said that the representatives were very encouraging and expressed their hope for the speedy implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.

He later met with Dr. Richard Hass, President Bush's envoy to Ireland and Secretary of State Colin Powell. Both men expressed their welcome for the IRA initiative and their hope that this would now lead to the process moving forward.

Mr. McGuinness spoke to them of the importance of demonstrating that politics works. He hoped that the effect of this initiative would be that the Agreement is implemented in full as intended and that everybody would begin working together for the good of all.''
