Sinn Fein to meet NIO on criminal justice review

Sinn Fein Justice Spokesperson, Mitchel Mc Laughlin will lead a Party Delegation to meet NIO Minister, Des Browne this afternoon to discuss the British government's response to the Criminal Justice Review.

Commenting in Belfast this morning prior to the meeting, Mr Mc Laughlin said:

`` We will be discussing a broad range of issues and concerns about the British government's response and accompanying Draft Legislation including the totally inadequate timescale for parties to respond.

``We feel that having sat on the Review Group's recommendations for two years that it is unreasonable for the British government to expect parties to scrutinise the implementation plan and Legislation and give a detailed response by December 12th.

``It also contravenes Section 75 of the NIO's own equality scheme that requires an eight week period of consultation.''

The Sinn Fein delegation will meet Minister Browne at 2.00pm at Castle Buildings. They will be available for comment following the meeting at approximately 2.45pm.
