Every Vote Counts
Speaking today on the eve of poll Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP said that tomorrow people right across the island will have the chance to make history. In the 26 counties people will have the chance to redefine our relationship with Europe and in the North people will have the chance to visibly change the face of politics forever.
Mr. Adams said:
``This is a crucial election. People need to stay focused and come out in large numbers tomorrow and cast their vote for change.
``Over the part four weeks I have travelled throughout Ireland seeking a mandate from the Irish people for real change.
``The positive response on the doorsteps has been overwhelming. In these elections people will vote for Sinn Fein in greater numbers than ever before.
``I am confident this increase in support will see Pat Doherty returned as MP for West Tyrone, Martin McGuinness in Mid Ulster and myself in West Belfast. On top of this with your support Michelle Gildernew can become Sinn Fein's first woman MP since Constance Markievicz and win the Fermanagh South Tyrone seat 20 years on from Bobby Sands and Gerry Kelly can take North Belfast.
``In the local elections Sinn Fein will increase our number of seats by one third and win representation on councils we have never been on before.
``Of course we take none of this for granted and it is crucial that everyone turns out to vote tomorrow. It is particularly important that first time voters come out and use their vote and play their part in making history.''
